The Workshop
Waveney Rush Limited relocated to its current premises on the North Bank
of Oulton Broad in Suffolk in 1999. The business currently occupies the
loft space of an old Maltings built in 1832; a building that itself has
a long and varied history having been used in the past as a maltings, a
munitions store during the Second World War, a boat yard and now a rush
weaving enterprise.
The weavers use the beams of the old barn to hang the braid over for
weaving and to help the braid to dry and air fully before use. The
rushes are stored in the downstairs area that also houses the tank for
soaking the rushes and two mangles; a fifty year old electrical mangle
and a hand operated, manual mangle should the fifty year old have an
'off' day!
We do welcome pre-booked visits to the workshop for a short tour. We
regret that, on account of our position, there is currently no disabled
access and groups are restricted to a maximum of 10 people at any one
time. Please contact us for further information and availability. |
